Editorial Policy

These are the rules the desk works to. They exist so readers can tell where our information comes from, what we did with it, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Sourcing

We start from primary material wherever it exists: company announcements, regulatory and earnings filings, product documentation, developer updates and briefings we attend. Where another publication broke a story first, we say so by name in the body of the article and link to their report, and we do not present their work as ours.

Every figure, date and direct quotation in a Stellaok article has to be traceable to a source. Anything we cannot stand up gets cut rather than hedged.

What we add

Repeating a news hit is not worth a reader's time. A Stellaok piece is expected to supply context the original did not: how the story got to this point, how it compares with a rival product or a previous version, the numbers that give it scale, and a direct answer on whether it changes anything for the reader.

Checking

Nothing publishes without a second read. The check covers names, numbers, dates, quotations and links, and confirms that the headline matches what the article actually says. Headlines are written to describe the story, not to bait a click.

Corrections

When we are wrong, we fix the article and say so on it. A correction note carries the date and states what was changed. We do not quietly edit an error out of an article that has already been published, and we do not delete pieces to make a mistake go away. Typographical fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.

Updates to running stories

Fast-moving stories are updated in place. The date on a piece reflects the most recent substantive update, and significant additions are marked in the text.

Independence

Stellaok is funded by display advertising. Advertising is handled separately from editorial, advertisers see no copy before publication, and no advertiser has any influence over what we cover. We do not accept payment for coverage, for links or for favourable treatment, and we do not run sponsored material dressed as editorial.

Review units, event travel and early access are accepted only when they come with no conditions attached, and we disclose them on the article where they apply.

Conflicts of interest

Writers do not cover companies in which they hold a financial position, and they declare holdings that could reasonably be seen as a conflict. Where a conflict cannot be avoided, it is disclosed in the article.
